(ConservativeSense.com) – Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who is now running for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, is becoming one of the most vocal critics of former President Donald Trump, whom Christie once supported.
Christie’s latest criticism of the former president addressed Trump’s claims that he would be able to end the war between Ukraine and Russia within 24 hours if he were back in the White House. Christie said the only way Trump would be able to do so would be to “do what [Trump] normally does” by bending down to Russian President Vladimir Putin and getting him “whatever he wants.”
The former governor of the Garden State said that members of the GOP “and quite broadly” across the country “are tired” of candidates in politics “who are snake oil salesmen” and don’t tell the truth.
Before criticizing Trump’s claim about being able to end the war, Christie also listed off various promises Trump made during his 2016 campaign that remain unfulfilled, such as reducing the national debt, repealing and replacing Obamacare, and failing to complete the controversial border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border that Trump claimed Mexico would pay for.
Christie said all the American people got was “a quarter of a wall” and “not one peso” from the Mexican government. Overall, Christie believes it is foolish to believe the former president when he claims he can end the war in Ukraine when he has failed to deliver on these other promises over the years.
Right now, Christie is only polling at a mere 2% leading up to the 2024 election, while Trump sits at 57% and his chief rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, is polling around 19%. Also polling ahead of Christie for the Republican nomination are former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump isn’t taking Christie’s blows without retaliating, of course. The 45th president took shots at everything from Christie’s wealth to his weight.
