(ConservativeSense.com) – Although he’s been climbing in the polls and doing fairly well in his media appearances while campaigning, entrepreneur and author Vivek Ramaswamy isn’t always so good at public relations. In a move that probably wasn’t well thought out, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Ramaswamy decided to spit some rhymes on stage.
During the fair, which took place in Des Moines, the 38-year-old GOP presidential candidate Ramaswamy decided it was a good idea to rap Eminem’s 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” in a polarizing publicity move. Footage of the impromptu performance started to circulate on social media, with some finding it endearing while others found it childish and desperate.
After a brief interview with the Governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, Ramaswamy was in the middle of signing merchandise when the classic Eminem song started playing. He continued to mingle and started singing the lyrics while taking pictures and shaking hands. Eventually, he picked up the mic and started rapping along to the song over the sound system.
According to Politico, Ramaswamy dabbled in rap music as a Harvard student, going by the stage name Da Vek. “Lose Yourself” was a song he performed often on campus, and he also spoke to Politico about Eminem as an inspiration and his admiration for the rapper.
Ramaswamy seems to be growing in support among the younger generations, and perhaps he felt the light-hearted fun and hip-hop music would be more appealing to them, but it may turn older voters off and result in not being taken seriously.
Regardless, Ramaswamy is making waves with his campaign, including promising to pardon former President Donald Trump if he is victorious in 2024. He’s also rising in the polls dramatically, and part of the reason for this is that he’s taken the media by storm, both online and on television, utilizing all means to get his campaign message out there.
