Burning It DOWN – Dems Want To Rewrite It ALL!

(ConservativeSense.com) – What started with “mothers” becoming “birthing people” is now expanding. It looks like the terms “husband” and “wife” are on the chopping block for Democrats as a California representative pushes for a bill to remove “gendered terms” from the federal legal code.

The Amend the Code for Marriage Equality Act was introduced by Rep. Julie Brownley. The bill seeks to change gendered language in the law code into gender-neutral language, replacing words like “husband” and “wife” with “spouse” or even “married person.” Brownley pleaded with Congress to showcase “its commitment to supporting equality,” especially with the Supreme Court and lawmakers “rolling back” LGBTQ rights.

Brownley is, of course, referring to hundreds of laws recently added to the books in multiple states throughout the country to ban so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors as well as banning drag performances in the presence of minors.

States like Florida have been particularly adamant about restricting the influence of children with LGBTQ ideology. The Sunshine State’s Governor Ron DeSantis is structuring his entire presidential campaign around fighting the “woke” ideologies of Democrats and radical leftists. Some LGBT Republicans think DeSantis is going a little too far in his rhetoric, though.

Brownley said that even though the Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay marriage in Obergefell v. Hodges, there are “instances” where the law code “does not respect” this constitutional right. She seeks to rectify this with her proposed legislation to make the law’s language more inclusive.

This isn’t the first time Brownley has pitched the idea. In 2017, 2019, and 2021, she introduced similar legislation, carrying on the work started by Democratic California Rep. Lois Capps, who is now retired but was the first lawmaker to introduce the bill in 2015.

Thirty-nine Democrats cosponsored the bill in 2021. It’s unlikely the bill will make it to Biden’s desk this time around, even with a Republican-majority House.
