(ConservativeSense.com) – A Washington farmer took matters into his own hands and dealt with burglars by utilizing his constitutional rights. Sam Krautscheid was preparing to attend a country music concert with his sons when he spotted a car outside one of his farm buildings. It was equipment that belonged to him, and he thought he saw the moving shadows of some uninvited guests. Mr. Krautscheid quickly grabbed his gun and defended his children and property.
The farmer was soon face-to-face with the burglars, one of whom came at him with a billy club but stopped in his tracks upon seeing that Mr. Krautscheid was armed. He held the two robbers until the police arrived. They were identified as 45-year-old Glenn Richard of Quincy and 28-year-old Jesus Rangel of Mattawa.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman said, “We have many responsible gun owners here in Grant County, and if they are outside protecting their property, they can certainly hold someone at gunpoint and then call 911.”
While the County Sheriff defends the Second Amendment, lawmakers in Washington State appear less enthusiastic to do so. Democratic Governor Jay Inslee has instituted stringent anti-gun laws, banning the sale and manufacture of 50 different kinds of weapons. The National Rifle Association (NRA) subsequently sued, arguing that the legislation is unconstitutional.
More recently, California’s Gavin Newsom has followed suit and is advocating for permission for states to enact unconstitutional laws. While this is unlikely to come to fruition, Newsom is taking action by doubling the taxes on guns and ammunition. He has also banned people from carrying firearms in most public places—a law that will undoubtedly be tested in courts, and given the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling in Bruen that expanded gun rights, it will likely be overturned.
Chuck Michel, president of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, said, “These laws will not make us safer. They are an unconstitutional retaliatory and vindictive response to the Supreme Court’s affirmation.”
