BRUTAL Attack – Lawmaker On The GROUND!

(ConservativeSense.com) – Prosecutors in Connecticut charged a 30-year-old man with assaulting Democratic state Rep. Maryam Khan but did not file hate crime charges. Khan, who is Connecticut’s first elected Muslim representative, said she was attacked after attending Eid services in Hartford in June. Police arrested Andrey Desmond for the assault, during which he allegedly grabbed the state representative, hit her, and threw her to the ground.

Desmond was initially charged with third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful restraint, and second-degree breach of peace, but demands to add a hate crime charge were rejected, leading to complaints from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Farhan Memon, a spokesperson for CAIR, said, “It continues to be a mystery to me why the state isn’t bringing bias crimes in this type of incident. Having this charged as a bias crime sends a message out to the rest of the population that this is going to be something that’s dealt with seriously.”

Khan has accused Hartford prosecutors of downplaying the assault on her and called for a federal investigation into violence against women. It is unclear if she is supported in this regard by CAIR, an institution that promotes sharia law in the United States. The group produced “took kits” on opposing anti-Sharia legislation in 2012, despite the religious legal system’s record in Europe and elsewhere for pushing back women’s rights and protections.

Connecticut prosecutors have not commented on the lack of hate crimes charges, but CAIR called on the federal government to refuse funding to local law enforcement authorities if they do not collect and collate “hate crimes data.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, which was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism funding trial in 2005 and found to have links with Hamas, has called for negative portrayals of Islam on TV shows and other media to be censored as hate speech. Meanwhile, the Coalition for Jewish Values condemns the group as virulently antisemitic and says it publicly refers to Jews as its enemies.
