(ConservativeSense.com) – Two-thirds of voters have serious concerns about Joe Biden’s health, according to an NBC poll. Large numbers of Americans are unconvinced that the President has the mental and physical capacity to carry out a second term in the Oval Office. Biden is the oldest ever US President and, if re-elected, will be 82 when he starts another four-year term in the White House.
Fewer people are apprehensive about the health and vitality of the President’s most likely opponent Donald Trump, who is 77.
The poll found that 68% of voters are worried about Biden’s ability to govern, compared to only 32% who say they have no such concerns. By contrast, 55% of respondents expressed trepidation about Donald Trump’s age, compared to 44% who don’t agree.
President Biden contributed to the discussion about his advanced years after he announced his 2024 campaign. The President said he doesn’t feel his age. “I can’t even say, I guess how old I am, I can’t even say the number. It doesn’t— it doesn’t register with me. I took a hard look at it before I decided to run. And I feel good,” he said.
Apprehension surrounding the President’s abilities is not limited to Republicans. Numerous Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, concede there are legitimate concerns. At a Washington conference, Clinton said, “his age is an issue, and people have every right to consider it.”
Polls conducted before Biden’s formal announcement for 2024 showed that most Democrats did not want him to be the party’s candidate, and a primary reason was his age. For example, a survey in July last year revealed that 64% of Democrats wanted a candidate other than the President.
The reasons cited included age, mental ability, and performance in his first term. The President’s age was the key factor for 33%, while 32% were unhappy about his White House performance. A surprisingly small 3% said he is not mentally fit to serve again, while 10% said he was not progressive enough.
