(ConservativeSense.com) – Despite attacks from every other Republican presidential candidate, former President Donald Trump continues to lead in national polls leading up to the first GOP debate in Milwaukee, which is a month away.
Former Vice President Mike Pence believes his former boss was in the wrong for trying to push him to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Former NJ Gov. Chris Christie also found Trump’s response to the 2020 election to be a dealbreaker for him, reiterating in a recent interview that Trump was responsible for the Capitol riot on Jan. 6 by promoting the belief among his supporters that the election was stolen.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley seems to be targeting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lately. Haley used to work for the Trump administration as a UN ambassador. Although light on her attacks on her former boss, she’s criticized his age as well as President Joe Biden’s age, claiming the White House needs “a new generation of leadership” upon announcing her campaign in February.
It’s no secret that Trump’s biggest rival for the Republican nomination is DeSantis. The two men have continuously taken shots at one another throughout the year. DeSantis accuses Trump of running a campaign that is too left-wing. And like Christie, he’s been listing off various promises the former president made while campaigning in 2016 that he failed to follow through on, such as lowering the national debt, mass deportations, and building a wall along the southern border that Trump said Mexico would pay for.
The most sympathetic candidate toward Trump is author and outlier Vivek Ramaswamy, who doesn’t like DeSantis and criticizes the Florida governor at every opportunity. Much of Ramaswamy’s campaign mirrors Trump’s “America First” platform from 2016. Although he believes Trump had his chance and new blood is needed in the Oval Office, Ramaswamy is also calling on fellow GOP candidates to pledge that they will pardon Trump if any of them win the general election.
Despite the attacks from every other GOP candidate, the Democratic candidates, and the mainstream media, Trump is still leading in the polls and remains the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.
